How Much Wedding Confetti Do I Need?
Find out moreOne of the questions we’re asked most often is:
How much wedding confetti do I actually need?
At Pétales de Provence, we grow our peonies on our flower farm in Provence, France, before carefully harvesting and naturally drying the petals to create beautiful, biodegradable wedding confetti.
As a simple guide:
1 litre of our natural petal confetti gives approximately 10–12 generous handfuls.
For a beautiful confetti photograph, we recommend allowing one good handful per person taking part in the confetti throw.
Wedding Confetti Calculator
50 guests throwing confetti
Recommended Quantity: 5 litres
Approx. handful: 50-60
75 guests throwing confetti
Recommended Quantity: 7 litres
Approx. handful: 70-84
100 guests throwing confetti
Recommended Quantity: 9 litres
Approx. handful: 90-108
150 guests throwing confetti
Recommended Quantity: 14 litres
Approx. handful: 140-168
200 guests throwing confetti
Recommended Quantity: 18 litres
Approx. handful: 180-216
For planning purposes, allow approximately:
1 litre for every 10–12 people throwing confetti.
If you’re between quantities, we recommend rounding up rather than down. A little extra confetti creates a much fuller effect in photographs.
Do I Need Confetti for Every Wedding Guest?
Not necessarily.
Calculate your quantity according to the number of people who will actually take part in the confetti throw, rather than your total wedding guest list.
For example, if you’re having a wedding with 150 guests but only 100 will form your confetti aisle, approximately 9–10 litres should provide a generous handful for everyone taking part.
Want That Spectacular Confetti Photograph?
If the confetti photograph is going to be one of the big moments of your wedding, we recommend being generous.
Natural flower petals look particularly beautiful when there are enough petals in the air to create a proper cloud around the couple.
For an extra-full effect, add approximately 10–20% more confetti than the standard recommendation.
So for 100 guests, instead of 9 litres, you might choose 10–11 litres for an especially impressive throw.
The Secret to a Beautiful Confetti Throw
Here’s one little trick that makes a huge difference:
Throw UP, not AT the couple!
Ask your guests to throw their handful of petals high above you.
Because our dried petals are lightweight, they will float back down, creating that beautiful cloud of natural confetti around you.
Ask your photographer or wedding coordinator to organise guests into two lines and give everyone a countdown.
3… 2… 1… THROW!
That’s when the magic happens.
Which Confetti Colours Photograph Best?
Soft whites and pale colours create a romantic, elegant effect.
Pinks, reds and stronger colours provide more contrast against a wedding dress, while mixed peony petals create a wonderfully natural burst of colour.
Because our petals are real flowers and are not artificially dyed, every batch has its own subtle variations in colour and shape.
